Taking Care of Your Inground Pool While on Vacation

So you have an inground swimming pool in your backyard and all year you have been taking care of it and you have been using it and it's been nothing but all blast all season long. Some people buy inground pools so that they don't have to take a vacation and instead decide to turn their backyard into a vacation destination. But let's face it, everyone needs a vacation and when better than in the summer. Well the problem now becomes your pool. Your pool, much like your pets, need to be taken care of while you are gone. So here are some tips to ensure your pool remains in tact while you are on vacation.

The first thing you need to do is find a friend or relative that you can trust to enter your backyard while you are gone to perform simple tasks on your swimming pool including adding chemicals, emptying the skimmer basket(s) and vacuuming manually or putting the automatic pool cleaner in. It would be ideal to find someone who already has a pool and has taken care of it. This way it won't be a learning experience for them while you are gone.

Before you leave you want to vacuum your pool and add shock and any other necessary chemicals to it, this way the person coming over won't have to worry about this for a week. Now if you are leaving for 2 weeks or more this person should check this each week.

After that, as long as the weather is doing fine and your timer is working correctly all they have to do is empty the skimmer basket(s) and make sure the pool is clean.

Above Ground Pools and Swimming Pools Are a Relief For When the Heat is On

Summer brings warm weather. One of the best ways to beat the heat is through the use of above ground pools. It will cost you much less to install an above ground swimming-pools than it will to have an in ground swimming pool installed. Above ground pools can be self installed while in ground pools will require hiring a professional for the installation.

There is some initial prep work that will need to be done regardless of the type of above ground swimmingpool you choose. The area where you will install the pool should be free of stones other foreign objects. A layer of sand will help to protect the pool from cuts and rips. For the above ground swimmingpool with metal walls you will need extra sand to form a cove around the inside of the wall. Without the cove the liner can become damaged and allow all the water to leak from your swimming pool.

For easiest setup, choose one of the inflatable ring pools. There are no walls or supports to assemble. Just inflate the ring and fill with water. This swimming pool practically sets its self up. These pools are of limited size range.

The oldest style above ground swimming pool is the metal sided swimming pool. These pools are quite sturdy and durable. They can last for many years with proper care. The plastic liner keeps the water in the pool and can be replaced if necessary. Pools with metal sides can be much larger than the inflatable ring pools.

For ease of setup like an inflatable ring pool but a larger size like the metal sided pool, try a pool with a PVC frame. These pools do not require the time of setting up a metal pool, and have the heavier liner used in the ring pool. These pools can be as large as most metal pools.

Your above ground pool will need a filtering system. Many owners prefer a sand filter to the paper filters common with pools today. While more expensive, they do not require daily cleaning like the paper filters and can be back-flushed in needed.

Salt systems are becoming very popular ways to control algae and other contaminates in the pool. They are just as effective as chlorine, but the chemicals are much more stable, do not bleach clothing and less expensive. As an added advantage, salt systems will not burn your eyes. The salt is very mild and will not harm clothing either.

Swimming Pool Decks Can Make Any Pool a Treasure

If you want to make your pool look a thousand times better, swimming pool decks can do the trick. It can be concrete or wood decking or vinyl even; installing a swimming pool deck can protect your back yard from turning into a mud bog and protect your guests from slipping in wet grass. It also transforms your yard into something quite extraordinary. Depending on the type of pool you have, whether it's in ground or above ground, your deck can be simple to very extravagant, small or extend from your backdoor to half way around your yard. It's up to you and your budget.

There are other limitations to your swimming pool deck plans. For instance if you have an above ground pool you wouldn't be able to build a concrete deck for it, nor would you want to. For one, it would jack the cost of your deck to astronomical heights and two, it would like ridiculous. No, with above ground pools you will have something that is portable and definitely less permanent than what an in ground pool would have. Mostly you're looking at vinyl, maybe something plastic or you could even wood would look great in an above ground pool deck. Concrete and brick pavers are more typical of in ground decks.

Digging further into above ground swimming pool decks there are two options for you. One is to have a freestanding platform deck that attaches to the side of the pool and is basically a ladder leading up to a deck that has enough room for just a couple people. Then there's a ladder dropping into the water to enter or leave the water. These often come with assembly instructions and are fairly inexpensive. The other is a deck that wraps around the pool with a walkway space. It might have a waist high fence to prevent someone from falling off. It costs more but makes the pool area look fuller. It will also help support the walls of your pool.

Swimming pool deck design for an in ground pool is basically left up to your imagination. Only your wallet can limit you on what look you are going for. Look at as many swimming pool decks as you can before you decide. If it doesn't make you happy when you first see it, you won't enjoy it down the road.

Using a Pool Thermometer to Maintain Your Swimming Pool

Those people who are lucky enough to have a swimming pool in their garden will know that it's not all fun and games. It is hard work to maintain a pool and it can be very costly as well. However, there are also plenty of benefits of having your own pool which makes it all worthwhile.

Some aspects of maintaining a swimming pool are simple and straightforward whereas others are a bit more complex and time consuming. One of the easiest aspects of maintaining a swimming pool is monitoring the temperature of the water. With all the technology around these days it's very easy to test and keep an eye on this.

A pool thermometer is one of the best ways to check the temperature of your pool water. You get many different varieties from standard thermometers to digital ones. Regardless of which type you decide to use, they are all easy to set up and keep running.

The most obvious reason why you would want to use a pool thermometer is to keep an eye on the temperature of the water. It's highly unlikely that anybody is going to want to swim in a freezing cold pool, so knowing the exact temperature before you jump in is very handy. This is especially relevant if you have young children because it's highly unlikely that you're going to want them to swim in freezing cold water.

Public swimming pools are more than likely going to want to use a pool thermometer to monitor the temperature of the water. This is very important because people are not going to want to swim there if the water is too hot or cold. Using a thermometer ensures that the water will always be at a comfortable temperature.

Another reason why many people would choose to use a pool thermometer is because they are so easy to use. They don't require any maintenance or updating. You simply put it in your pool and leave it there. You can then check it whenever you want to ensure the water is it at the right temperature and perfect for swimming in.

One of the best things about getting a pool thermometer is the fact that they don't cost a fortune. Anyone with their own pool will know that it can be very expensive to buy all the necessary equipment and chemicals. Fortunately, buying a thermometer won't break the bank which means that you can use the money on other things that you may need.

Swimming Pools: What You Need for Your Pool

When summer arrives, it’s time to get cool and enjoy the fun of summer. Like other homeowners, you may be thinking a swimming pool. Pools are great to have, although they require a lot of work and maintenance - whether you have an in ground or above ground swimming pool. Before you rush out and buy your pool for summer, there are a few things you should know.

When you buy your pool, your dealer or salesman will more than likely go over what else you need with your pool. In order to operate your pool, there are several things that you simply must have to get started.

The first thing you’ll need is a filtration system. When you get your filtration system, make sure that your filtration system is capable of handling your pool capacity. A filtration system is very important, as it helps to remove small partials and bacteria from building up in your water
.

A vacuum is also important. You should make sure however, that you purchase a vacuum that is specific for your swimming pool. There are several types of vacuums available, and you want to make sure that you don’t purchase the wrong one. Vacuums are essential to operating your pool, as they help to clean out debris settled on the bottom.

You should also make sure that you get a skimmer basket or strainer as well, as it helps with your vacuum and filtration system. Skimmer baskets or strainers will keep your pool clean by catching debris and bugs that manage to get into your pool. You should use them whenever you use your pool, as they will do a majority of the cleaning for you.

To protect your pool, you’ll also need a swimming pool cover. Covers are available in a few different types, and several different sizes. A cover will protect your pool from debris and elements, as well as preventing those you love from drowning. You should always make sure that you buy a strong and sturdy cover, and be sure to use it to cover your pool when you aren’t swimming.

A maintenance chart is also important. With a maintenance chart, you can keep track of what you have done to your pool, the level of chemicals that you are using, and the readings of the tests that you have performed on your water. Maintenance charts are easily overlooked by pool owners, although they are essential to knowing what you have done to your pool.

Another important items you’ll need are chemicals. They play a very important role in balancing your water, and helping swimmers stay healthy. There are several different types of chemicals available, including chlorine, clarifier, and pH chemicals. All types of chemicals are very important, and need to be used to keep your water levels healthy. You can check your water and pH levels on a daily basis, as you do your regular pool maintenance.

In order to perform tests on your pool, you’ll need a testing kit. They come in either strip or bottle form, and allow you to test and understand the different chemical levels in your water. If you are planning to keep your pool healthy, you’ll need to do tests. They are easy to do, and won’t take you but a few minutes of your time.

To operate your pool and perform the proper maintenance, you’ll need to have the above equipment and supplies. Although you can buy pool accessories such as toys and furniture, they aren’t required to use your swimming pool. You don’t need to have any accessories - although you do need everything listed above.

The Basics of Water Balance in Pools

Keeping your pool in tiptop shape is about more than just running the filter and using a skimmer every now and then. To properly maintain your pool, you need to become something of a chemist and learn a bit about maintaining the balance of chemicals in your pool's water. Any pool construction Brisbane professional will tell you that people who fail to keep their pool's chemicals in check face many serious problems. After the Brisbane pool builders have left, make sure you know the basics of achieving - and maintaining - the proper water balance.

pH -

Even if you've never owned a pool before, you've probably heard other pool owners mention pH. pH refers to the measure of how alkaline or acidic the water in your pool is; its scale ranges from zero to 14. A measure below 7 means the water is acidic, a measure above 7 is alkaline, and a measure of 7 is neutral. Optimally, you want to keep the water within the neutral range; a measure between 7.0 and 7.8 is considered best. If you have a fibreglass pool, you'll want to aim for a pH between 7.0 and 7.2.

A Note About pH And Chlorine -

pH has a major effect on the sanitising effects of chlorine therefore it is important to keep your pH levels in balance. If your pool's pH levels get out of whack, no amount of chlorine is going to keep it sanitary.

Total Alkalinity -

Total alkalinity - often referred to as T.A. - is another important measure of the water balance of your pool. Basically, total alkalinity is a measure of the carbonates, bicarbonates and hydroxides in your pool water. Optimally, you'll want to maintain a T.A. of approximately 60 to 200 ppm, or parts per million. When you have your pool installed, the Brisbane pool builders who have installed it can tell you the exact level you'll want to maintain for your specific pool.

Low levels of total alkalinity can cause concrete and painted surfaces in the pool to erode. pH levels also become very unstable when the T.A. gets too low, and it is difficult to maintain the proper pH. There are various products you can use to change the T.A. of your pool; they include bicarbonate of soda, which raises total alkalinity, and acid, which lowers T.A.

Calcium Hardness -

Calcium hardness is a measure of the level of dissolved calcium in your pool water. Optimally, it should be between 80 to 500 ppm. As with total alkalinity, low levels of calcium hardness can lead to erosion in your pool. Unlike pH and T.A., calcium hardness cannot be measured with a regular testing kit but can usually be tested by your local pool supply shop.

What Swimming Pool is Right For You?

If you have been considering getting a pool for your home, you may be wondering what options you have. There are a couple of very important things to consider before anything else. One is the amount of space you have available for your pool and the other is the type of swimming pool your are going to have installed.

The size of the pool your property will be able to handle is obviously going to be dictated by how much room you have in your yard. If you are going to be working in a space that is on the small side, do not choose a model that will push the absolute limits of your available space. You will want to have room around the swimming pool for things like the pool filter and possibly a deck. You will also want to be sure that you leave enough room that you can move comfortably around your pool as you perform routine pool maintenance. This may seem obvious, but I have seen several people in my area who have jammed pools into their tiny backyards with only a couple of feet of clearance on the sides. Make your life a little bit easier and choose a pool that fits your yard.

If you have enough room, you can use your imagination when choosing the type of pool you want on your property. Your main consideration will be whether you want to go with an above ground swimming pool or and in-ground model. In general, in-ground pools give you many more options for swimming pool designs. Custom built pools can be a beautiful addition to any property. Above ground swimming pools on the other hand are usually limited to being round, oval, or rectangular. They also usually come in standard sizes and depths.

The area where above ground swimming pools have an advantage is in swimming pool cost. They are much less expensive to purchase and install than their in-ground cousins. An above ground model can usually be purchased and set up for a few thousand dollars or less. In-ground models can range well into the tens of thousands of dollars depending on the pool design you choose to use.

No matter what type of swimming pool you choose to purchase, you will find that it is a great way to bring the family together for an entertaining day. You should measure your property, consider your family's desires and budget and then get plenty of estimates. With pool financing plans available now, you may be surprised at just how nice of a pool you can afford.

Tips For Taking Care Of Your Swimming Pool

Having your own swimming pool is a luxury that most people are envious of. Yet anyone who owns one knows it isn’t all fun in the sun. Having your own pool involves keeping it clean, keeping it the right temperature, keeping everyone who uses it safe, and preparing the pool for the colder months.

It is vital to take care of your swimming pool properly. Otherwise you run the risk of causing severe damage to it. There are a variety of chemicals that have to be added to your swimming pool. The type of chemicals and the amounts will depend on the size and set up of your swimming pool.

Never buy cheap knock off chemicals. They are a bad choice and you won’t have the right balance of the chemicals to keep the water clean. This can result in having to drain the water in your pool and starting over. That can be very time consuming as well as costly.

A filtration system is needed to remove small debris from the water. You need to make sure you use the right size of filter for your swimming tool. Getting one that is too small will result in it working too much and too hard. It can get clogged or simply stop working.

If you want to enjoy your swimming pool all year long, it is important to have a heating system to keep your water at the right temperature. If you won’t be using it in the winter months, you will need to consider either draining the water or installing a quality pool cover.

One of the most important issues relating to taking care of your swimming pool is safety. You should have a locked fence in place so no one, especially children, can come into the pool area unattended. A retractable tarp for your pool is a good way to make sure no one accidentally gets into the water.

Having your own swimming pool is a nice treat on those hot days, but taking care of your swimming pool takes time and money. You need to keep a list of routine items that need to be taken care of for your swimming pool. Some have to be done weekly, others monthly. If you are too busy to take care of such issues, consider hiring a pool service. They can take care of routine maintenance for you so that you can spend your time enjoying your pool instead of taking care of it.

Safety Tips for Installing Swimming Pools

Swimming pools are considered as a potential exercise pool where one can relax and enjoy the soothing bath. Unfortunately, the number of drowning deaths especially among young children has increased to a great extent. These unpleasant accidents have incited the public debate over the safety of cheap inflatable pools.

According to the latest reports, drowning has been proved as the chief cause for deaths among children aging between one to four. Sadly, this particular cause is getting increased with each passing day. In fact the latest report from the US based Consumer Product and Safety Commission, clearly indicates that the annual number of drowning deaths involving children under age five had increased to 283 for 2003-2005, up from 267 in 2002-2004. Surprisingly most of these deaths and injuries happened in homes and yards, and generally involved children under the age of two.

Because of increasingly posing dangers, parents need to keep a strict eye on their children in case they are near any water pool. Besides this, parents must access the limits of their child's ability to swim. They further need to set firm ground rules for allowing child to enter into the water.

Follow swimming pool safety tips should be taken in care:

1. It is better not to leave babies or infant children unattended near any water resource including tubs, pools or buckets of water.

2. Encourage your child to take up the swimming lessons.

3. Do not let your children to swim without the adult supervision or alone. Make sure they swim in the supervised places that too with a lifeguard on duty.

4. Try to cover the swimming area with safety fences with child-proof latches around swimming pools.

5. Never let your child to dive into unfamiliar water.

Having a good swimming pool at home is not enough, you need to take extra care of your pool and its surrounding area.

How Can You Maintain Your Health With Swimming Pools

Swimming is a sport. It’s a hobby. It’s an exercise. Swimming is for recreation. It’s for personality development. It’s for therapeutic values. It’s for relaxation and meditation. It’s for the sick and infirm. It’s for the disabled. It’s perhaps the finest way of cooling off. The list is endless. Let’s focus a bit.

Swimming for physical health and fun

To begin with swimming does not require any special equipment. Swimming is truly perfect for recreation. Children love to swim in the company of friends. Can you imagine an evening party with better ambience than next to a lit up heated swimming pool with all the trappings of a bar, music and plasma screen television screen?! You can enjoy all this and improve your health at the same time. Famous as a stress buster, swimming has no competitor as the almost zero impact exercise for aerobic activities. It increases your physical stamina even as it improves your muscle tone. Swimming is perfect for cooling off while you are exercising. This factor of course reduces the effect of swimming in the field of weight loss activities. But, nevertheless it cannot be denied that you are burning off calories (and fat) while having fun.

Swimming for the health of the aged and the disabled

Swimming is recommended for the aged as a natural cardiovascular exercise to age gracefully. This is an important aspect. Swimming pools with lifeguard support provide a secure environment, especially for the aged. This is because swimming is totally free from injuries to limbs not uncommon in harmless comparable exercises like walking and jogging. Swimming in swimming pools is recommended for arthritic patients. It is also recommended for those having physical disabilities which prevent them from taking strenuous exercises. Swimming in swimming pools under supervision would probably be the best exercise for patients of depression since it has qualities of removing mental stresses and encouraging meditation. Smokers on rehabilitation would probably find decreased nicotine withdrawal symptoms.

Swimming in swimming pools is by far the safest way to have relaxation and exercise both of the mind and the body.

Getting the Most Out of your Swimming Pool

A swimming pool can provide a lot of pleasure for the whole family, although you should make safety your first priority. The cost of installing a new in-ground swimming pool is going to vary widely. A family swimming pool can be a great addition to any household a gathering place for friends and family, for relaxation, for exercise, parties and more. Although a swimming pool can be fun, it can also be especially dangerous if you have kids present.

If you own a swimming pool, you should always do your part and help protect those you love. Teaching kids about safety can never come too early, as it will go a long way to protect them each and every day of their lives. Whether you have an above ground or below ground swimming pool, you must make sure that safety is imposed. Pool covers are also one such safety component. Overall, safety must be given first priority while purchasing a pool cover.

Warmer environments only require simple plastic swimming pool covers just to keep the pool clean and protected from airborne dust, dirt, and leaves when not in use. The choice of the type of swimming pool cover is determined by what the particular necessities are. You should always have a pool cover, and use it on your pool when you aren’t swimming. You will use the plastic cover to seal the pool for the winter and to protect the pool from the harsh elements such as wind, ice and debris. To protect your children make sure you have a cover on the pool, a simple plastic cover will help protect your children from taking a dive. When choosing a cover make sure that it can withstand falling debris. There are semi-automatic pool covers that run via a motor and they slide on parallel tracks along the pool, some of these device require you open it manually

To make the pool safe make sure you install a fence around the pool and make sure the fence is at least 3-4 feet high. The fence needs to be completely separate from the pools and house and must wrap around the pool. Less than 4 inches is an ideal width. If you do not posses a fence around your pool you should get one right away. Having a fence is an excellent method to protect your pool from children. The child safety pool fence is growing in popularity with more and more people recognizing how effective it is for preventing the risks of drowning. It was in fact noted by several reviews that the child safety pool fence is by far the most practical and effective barrier against pool drowning.

The purpose of chlorine is to chemically destroy complex organic contaminants introduced into a pool by swimmers and the environment. Potential buyers are about evenly divided on whether a pool is a good or bad thing in any given property. When researching pools make sure you do the proper research, in ground pools are permanent and above ground pools you can remove. Contrary to popular thought, winter, not spring or summer is the right time to get a pool dug up, as the ground is not soggy. Whether you want an in ground pool or above ground is a matter of personal choice.

No pool alarm is fail-safe no matter how many technologies and features are included and no matter what claims are made by the manufacturer. The infrared motion detector helps to detect anyone going near the pool.

Swimming Pool Spa Leaks

These days, spa leak swimming pool inspections in Austin, Texas are becoming more and more important as a considerable number of people are becoming more and more ignorant about the maintenance of their swimming pools. The need of a working plumbing system has become very important these days in every home located in Austin, Texas because of the increasing number of swimming pool spa leakage problems and this has resulted in the establishment of small scale companies in this area which are providing plumbing services at a very nominal pricing. These plumbing services are very effective and can detect and repair any kind of leak in the swimming pool at a person’s house. When a leak occurs, a lot of water is wasted and the person suddenly gets to realize that how does it feels like to live without a single precious drop of water.

It is very important for every person in this world to make sure that there are no leakages in his house and even places outside his house which belong to him like fountains and swimming pools. Moreover, the person should have a proper self plumbing system at his home so that in case of emergency when there would be no plumber available, the leakages can be stopped or at least control so that not much of water is wasted. When a person applies a self plumbing system to his house, then the first thing he must care about is the drainage system. If the drainage gets blocked then there will be no way to discharge the water and it will get logged at one place giving birth to a variety of disease causing germs and bacteria. So drainage is the most important thing in a self plumbing system.

Moreover, the drains of the plumbing system should be cleaned regularly so that the water can easily exit through these pipes and get merge with the drainage pool. The drainage system can be easily cleaned by opening the lid and removing the waste from the drain. When the drains are cleaned, then the next step should be to make sure that the taps are conducting a constant flow of water. Taps should be cleaned properly and the pipes should not be allowed to gather any waste material inside them so that the water does not gets blocked. By doing this a person can ensure that he has a better self plumbing system at home.

A Swimming Pool Is Cool- Literally

A swimming pool just oozes coolness from all sides of a privacy fence! Whether it's an above ground swimming pool or an in-ground swimming pool - nothing makes your lifestyle more fashionable (or popular) than your very own swimming pool.

Why? While swimming is, always has been, and always will be a favorite summertime activity, not everyone enjoys swimming in public pools or potentially dangerous and unsupervised rivers and lakes. Without access to your own swimming pool any day of the week (and any time of the day), you're restricted to hours of operation (as with a public pool), or you're vulnerable to unpredictable accidents (as with rivers and lakes). Or you're restricted to other methods of staying cool in the heated months like air conditioning, iced tea drinks and whatnot. But they're just not as fun as swimming!

If you think you don't have room or the funds for your own private swimming pool - think again. Swimming pools come in all sizes and prices - each to accommodate the taste, style, size, and budget of their buyers. We all don't need an Olympic sized swimming pool to enjoy swimming. Especially when sometimes all we want is a quick dip to cool off. In the latter case, a very small wading pool would serve us just as well as if we were floating on a competition pool!

Your swimming pool can be above ground, in ground, indoors, or outdoors. It can be rectangular shaped, round, or organic shaped. Your preference should however be based on the amount of property that you're able to dedicate to a swimming area, how often you plan on swimming, and how dedicated you'll be to maintaining it. Obviously the larger pools require more maintenance than smaller pools, but don't let the small size of a tiny pool fool you. Even a mere twelve-foot wide.

Swimming pool requires chlorine, shock, mechanical filtering, nets, and even vacuuming too!

Once you've made these decisions, you can hire a professional construction company to begin working on your pool. An aboveground pool is quicker to install than an in-ground pool because with the latter, construction involves intensive digging, pipe work, and cementing. Aboveground pools are almost pre-built before they arrive onto your property so that constructors can simply erect it and secure in place.

Of course, the time it takes to build a pool also depends on how far it deviates from standard shapes and materials. For example, a cement below ground pool would take longer to install than would an above-ground pool, yet shorter than would a tiled below-ground pool take. A rectangular shaped pool would be a rather quick install compared to an organic shaped pool, yet it would be a slightly longer install if it were constructed with patterned brick or stone.

Fortunately, the shape of a pool doesn't change maintenance requirements as most pools require the same kind of care. The only thing that changes a pool's care is its size and material. For instance, swimming pools with a rubber lining need more repetitive care and maintenance than would a pool with a cement or tile lining.

Whatever size, style, or material that you have your pool built with, you can always ask your construction crew for advice on how to care for it. That is, after you invite them over for a nice swim!

The Swimming Pool: A Gift for Summer

In tropical and warm areas of the world, there is a surplus of places to swim in, including a plethora of beautiful beaches, surrounded as the islands are with the waters of the oceans and seas. Places in the California, Bahamas, Hawaii, and South East Asia, provide the best locations for leisure. Under swinging trees, one could enjoy the great expanse of fresh blue water. But one must wonder: there are resorts and club-houses visited by armies of vacationers for their sprawling array of inground swimming pools. Quite rarely, a swimming pool zone could be found lying in wait at the local home-owner's back yard, and one, who just as rarely, ever leaves his home for the beach.

Living in a warm climate can oftentimes leave one aching for a nice dip, and more often than not, people clamber onto buses and cars to leave for exotic places to slake this desire. But for the lucky owner of a pool, a few swimming pool toys, lemonade, and a chair under the shade of a tree, could be just as good.

During the summer days, it is usually best to shed one's clothes for swimsuits during the late afternoons, or during the evenings. It is at these times that the air is fairly cool, and one can go for a dip in relative contentment. Late evening swims are great, too, provided that you have enough lighting.

Professional swimmers, however, may find that a swimming pool in their back yard just might not cut it. There are length requirements and certainly, sports complexes around the city could very well provide the pool outfit they need. These places are usually open on early mornings, and stay open well into the night.

A pool owner can settle for a good swimming pool design, selecting a rather showy display of optics beneath the cool surface of a well-maintained tub or simply, a nondescript square in which to frolic in. But hospitality and warmth could be expressed in tile design, or even, pool liner. Swimming pool liner can play a huge part in aesthetics, enticing a swimmer to come-hither or to step farther! But most especially, it plays a part in swimming pool durability, allowing you to either enjoy your pool for longer periods, or leaving you with longer periods of maintenance instead.

Some homeowners may find that a fiberglass swimming pool is a simple solution to a sweltering, tropical dilemma. It could simply be lowered into a hole dug-up in someone's garden. Since acid washing, resurfacing, and liner replacements aren't necessary for these kinds of pools, they are probably the cheapest to have in the long run. It doesn't matter, really. For most people, it's the water that counts and a swimming pool, by no mean feat, could very well make or break a hot summer vacation.

Indeed, people in a country gifted with a wondrous array of beaches would want a swimming pool. Swimming pools come with the gift of convenience and even more importantly, it can be a conduit of expression. It is, to the hospitable swimming enthusiast, a way of getting people together under his roof, for his enjoyment and theirs.

Gunite Pools: Why They Are So Popular

Gunite is a pneumatically applied concrete with superior strength, up to 6000-7000 psi. Gunite has been used to build inground swimming pools for over 30 years and its superiority to do the job is unequaled. Gunite has been used to create Olympic competition pools as well as the inground swimming pool at the White House, in which the president takes his morning laps.

Contractors and homeowners alike prefer gunite because gunite inground pools can be built to any design and shape and lend themselves especially well to the homeowner with a vision. If you have a unique oasis in mind, your gunite pool builder can assist you with blueprinting the design and offer suggestions for creating a gunite deck as well as gunite pool.

Your gunite pool professional will also assist you in choosing other items to fulfill the vision you have for your gunite inground pool; such as fountains, streams and landscaping.

Gunite lends itself especially well to free-form pools, decks and steps. For instance you might want a flowing shape with graceful curves in your steps as well as your gunite pool. The gunite steps and pool can then be encrusted with colorful pebbles or natural stone. Gunite can also be colored, stamped, embedded with a design etc.

The options are limited only by your imagination. For example, you might want a stream flowing over rocks into your pool so that you can envision yourself in a wild secluded glen where there are no worries, jobs and daily stresses. With the help of your gunite contractor you can realize that dream with a harmonizing landscape to surround your gunite inground pool.

Dream a while and discuss ideas for your gunite swimming pool with your family. A good starting place is to have each family member list one or two things that they would like in their gunite inground pool and private oasis. This gives you a place to begin when you are starting to interview gunite contractors.

Excavation is necessary with the installation of a gunite pool; the entire process from start to finish, normally takes 8-12 weeks. Be sure that your contractor is a member of the APSP (Association of Pool and Spa Professionals).

The addition of a gunite inground swimming pool to your home is a superb investment in your health, as swimming is a wonderful form of exercise for your entire body. Swimming in your gunite pool will build long, lean muscles and give you a wonderful cardiovascular workout.

For many doctors and physical therapist, swimming is the exercise of choice, because it doesn't put pressure on joints and you don't have to be swimming, per say, to enjoy a superior workout. You can jog in place in your gunite inground pool or simply move your arms back and forth through the water to enjoy the benefits of natural water resistance.

Perhaps the best part of having a gunite inground swimming pool at your home is its accessibility. You can come home from work, slip on your suit or not, and walk out your back door to your own private oasis to take a refreshing dip in your beautiful gunite pool before dinner. In the morning or during the day you can put the baby down for a nap, take the baby monitor out to your very own inground pool and exercise without worry.

A gunite inground pool also does wonders for your property value as it is the highest quality pool available.

Know This When Replacing Swimming Pool Filters

Keeping your swimming pool filters properly serviced is the key to having clean, healthy, sparkling water in your pool or spa. The best way to determine that your filter needs service is to watch the pressure. When the pressure rises 8 to 10 psi above the baseline it is time for pool maintenance. Cloudy water is another sure sign that your filter needs maintenance.

Safety should always be the first consideration when replacing or cleaning your swimming pool filter, especially those filters that are fitted with pressure-clamps. These pressure-clamps can "blow" under certain circumstances, causing property damage, severe injuries and in the worst cases, death. Always consult the manufacturer's guidelines before performing maintenance on your filter.

The first thing to do when replacing or performing maintenance on your filter is to turn off the electricity to the swimming pool and pump; after the pump has been turned off, open the pressure release valve and when there hissing sound stops you are ready to proceed.

There are three types of filters: sand, DE (diatomaceous earth), and cartridge and they can be either pressure or vacuum pool filters. Depending upon the type of filter you have, there are several ways to perform the required pool maintenance.

First check to see what brand of swimming pool filter you have. Some of the more popular brands are Sherlok, Pentair, Jacuzzi, Super-flo, Jandy and Sta-Rite. It is always wise to spend the few extra dollars and buy the brand-name filter that matches your pump. This ensures that your warranty will not be compromised should you run into trouble with the replacement filter while performing normal pool maintenance.

Sand filter: with proper pool maintenance a sand filter can give you years of trouble-free service. Backwashing is the correct method for cleaning a sand swimming pool filter. This is done by reversing the water flow through the filter and redirecting the waste water to the sewer or waste water line. Most manufacturers recommend a 2-3 minute backwash. It is important not to restart the pump right away as the sand needs time to settle. Check you manufacturer's instruction manual for the step-by-step procedure before beginning maintenance on your filter.

DE filter: DE swimming pool filters require an in-depth cleaning once a year and periodic back-washes throughout the season to perform satisfactory pool maintenance. See manufacturer's directions.

Cartridge Filter: After turning off the electricity to the pump and swimming pool, and releasing the pressure valve, you simply remove the retaining band, lift the lid and remove the cartridge. Hose off the cartridge, examine the pleats and hose off any debris stuck between them. If extensive dirt and oil have accumulated you should soak the cartridge for an hour or two in a solution of trisodium phosphate (1 cup to 5 gallons water) and muriatic acid (1 cup to 5 gallons water). After soaking remove the cartridge from the cleaning solution and scrub. Hose off well before reassembling your swimming pool filter.

5 Reasons To Get An Inflatable Pool In Your Backyard

As the weather changes and flowers begin to bloom, it is time to blow up your Inflatable pool and have some fun. More and more families are turning to inflatable swimming pools because of the convenience and cost efficiency over a concrete pool. And with the wide variety of sizes and shapes, there is plenty of fun in the sun to be had. Here are 5 reasons why you will want an inflatable pool in your backyard.

1. Cheap
If you are looking to provide your kids with a fun activity in the backyard without spending an arm and a leg, inflatable pools are the way to go. Concrete pools can cost you thousands of dollars to renovate in the backyard, but inflatable swimming pools can run anywhere between $15 to a few hundred dollars. The price difference all depends on the size you want to purchase.

2. Options
Inflatable pools come in all different sizes, shapes and colors allowing you to purchase a pool that works best in your backyard. Because of the wide variety of pools on the market, you can plan accordingly and purchase a pool that will fit wherever you want to put it.

3. Lightweight
Perhaps the biggest benefit to having an inflatable pool over a concrete pool is that it is lightweight and can be moved whenever you want. If you are planning a barbeque for the weekend, you can move the pool wherever you want it to go. This gives you flexibility and allows you to use your backyard for other things as oppose to having a pool take over your entire backyard.

4. Deflate
Going along with the statement above, inflatable swimming pools can obviously be deflated and stored away. This way if you are having a barbeque with many guests, you can take down the pool and clear up more space in the backyard. This also comes in handy when the weather changes and it begins to get colder outside.

5. Not permanent
When you get a concrete pool, there are many costly excavations that make it permanent to the house. If you change your mind a few months down the road, there is not much you can do about it. With an inflatable pool, you have the ability to deflate it and store it away or pull it out when the sun is shining on the backyard. It is far from being permanent making it an easier decision of whether or not to purchase one.

Inflatable swimming pools can be fun for the entire family, although they are extremely popular among kids. With the many options available, you can find pool sizes for kids and adults. And because of this, inflatable pools have become one of the top summer selling items on the market.

Fiberglass Swimming Pool - Better Quality Than You Think

There are many different types of swimming pools that one can choose from, and one of those is to go with the fiberglass swimming pool. Fiberglass pools are manufactured (and installed) as large molded structures that are then placed in the ground. The large "bucket" is then surrounded by a strong reinforcement, like the more conventional concrete, which will then help it keep its place.

Fiberglass swimming pools don't have a liner because the shell is sprayed with a specially designed coating. A wide range of models with different sizes, colors and shapes are available in pools made out of fiberglass, and allow the type of variety that many consumers love. One of the great benefits that is credited to fiberglass pools is that that are very easy and quick to install, even with the need for heavy equipment. Maintenance is also a relatively simple process, since there will never be a liner replacement, and in general, fiberglass swimming pools will need less chemicals to keep clean than other models.

While fiberglass swimming pools require less maintenance, they do require certain maintenance to ensure that they are not damaged or in need of greater repairs and upkeep down the line. Unlike other swimming pools, fiberglass swimming pools MUST be filled with water at all times to avoid causing structural damage through cracking or buckling. This is due to ground pressure that occurs because of improper drainage. If for some reason the pool absolutely needs to be drained, do not do it on your own! Make absolutely sure to contact the pool manufacturer and qualified professionals. You don't want to damage such a large investment!

Other factors to keep in mind is to avoid the "bathtub ring" effect of grime. Not only does this look bad, but this could damage the coatings. Most pool supply stores should sell pool tile cleaner that can take care of that in a jiffy. As an important side note, never use abrasive cleaners or harsh tools like steel wool or metal scrapers to clean fiberglass. This type of treatment will permanently damage the gel coating in the pool.

While the fiberglass pool may seem to develop hairline cracks over time, this is not a major concern since this is only indicative of the surface gel, and not actual structural damage. Dirt is always a concern, and should be brushed towards the main drain and the vacuumed out with the appropriate tool.

The fiberglass swimming pool has its advantages and disadvantages like many other swimming pools. For some this may not be a good choice, while for others the fiberglass swimming pool may be exactly what they have been looking for.

Swimming Pool Pumps Keep Your Water Clean and Fresh

Swimming pool pumps are some of the most important tools around for the maintenance and upkeep of pools. If you are going to spend the large amount of money that it costs to invest in a pool, than obviously you want to protect that investment. Who wouldn't? To keep it clean and functioning, one of the most important pieces of equipment you will have to keep in full working order is the pump.

A swimming pool pump is a mechanical device that works with the filter to maintain your pool's cleanliness. Pool pumps are offered in a large selection with many different sizes and pumping capabilities, depending on your specific needs. Some are designed for smaller above ground pools and spas, while others are designed for "in-ground" pools. No matter what type you have, there is a pump designed to do the job of keeping your pool both clean and safe.

A pool pump works by taking water from the pool, running it through a basket, and then through the filter, in order to trap as much debris and dirt as possible. The pump then sends the cleansed water back into the pool, minus dirt and debris, thereby keeping the water much cleaner than it would otherwise be. A pump can have multiple speeds and different power levels, once again depending on design and function.

Every pump has a certain capability level that lets you know how much water it can circulate. It is absolutely critical to note the pump's circulation ability and see how much it can pump either by the minute or by the hour. One general rule of thumb that many pool owners use is that a residential pool should be able to circulate its entire water contents in ten hours or less.

Another similar aspect that is important to look at is the energy efficiency of the pump as well as any warranty coverage to figure out the best deal. Pumps can vary widely in price. They can be found from as low as $50 to as high as over $500. You want to make sure to get the best combination of effectiveness and cost for your pool.

Swimming pool pumps are a necessary part of maintenance. They are just as necessary as filters or chemicals. If you don't have any idea what type of a pump your pool needs, then don't be afraid to ask! That's what the experts are there for. Know the model and make of your pool, and write down any other information you think could be relevant to help them know what you should be looking for. This will help the people at the pool supply find you exactly the swimming pool pump you need, and with the proper pump you will be able to more fully enjoy the wonderful benefits of your pool.

Swimming Pool Filter Supplies: Necessary For A Clean And Healthy Pool

If you are planning on installing a pool or spa then you will also need to make sure you use quality swimming pool filter supplies amongst other things. Often people only think that they need water but there are lots of other accessories that are needed to keep your pool or spa in perfect condition and swimming pool filter supplies is just one.

To keep your pool in tip top condition and safe for you and your family you need to have a good quality filtration system and chemicals that do all sorts of testing and cleaning. This is the same if you have an above ground or in ground pool or spa. If you have a salt water or chlorinated pool you will still need swimming pool filter supplies. Apart from that type of cleaning you may find the need to also use a pool cleaner that is like a vacuum cleaner for use in the water.

Other things to think about are heaters whether solar or otherwise, covers, ladders, slides and so on. These are all added accessories and of course are not necessities but are very handy and useful depending on your needs.

Owning a pool or spa isn't always all good fun as like anything that you own it may be in the need of a replacement part at some stage of its life. When this happens you will need to know where to look for spares such as replacable filters for example. The Internet can be of great help in that situation, as you will have a wider range of options to choose from. You can of course always contact the place you bought your pool or spa from and get help there but often they can be more expensive.

The good thing is that you do have options. If you haven't already bought your pool or spa, make sure you take the time to check out what options you do have and what is entailed in owning a pool or spa before you jump in to quickly.

With the varied availability of swimming pool equipment and designs, you have a lot to think about when it comes to safety. Whether you use different types of swimming pool liners, or think about purchasing a new swimming pool toy, there are a lot of pool inspection tips you should consider. It may also help to ask questions at your local swimming pool supply shop, because talking to experts face to face about your swimming pool safety needs can help you in the long run.

Your swimming pool design and capacity

A lot of things depend on your pool's design and capacity. Some of these things include the amount of water treatment chemicals you'll need, the type of liner you should have, as well as the aesthetics of your swimming pool. It's important to calculate the average depth of your pool using this equation: Deep End (feet) + Shallow End (feet) ? 2 = Average Depth. It will help you determine your swimming pool capacity. The swimming pool design you choose will also aid you in buying the proper swimming pool covers that you will need during different seasons. Leaf-catcher covers are effective during summer, fall and spring, while a different swimming pool cover is available for winter. These allow you to keep your pools in top shape despite the seasonal and climatic changes. Almost any swimming pool supply shop has a good stock of covers for your swimming pool. Keep in mind that a well-covered swimming pool is a safe pool.

Getting the ideal swimming pool liner

The quality of your swimming pool liner is essential to your pool's water quality. This is because it prevents the water from being contaminated. It also maintains your water's pH, and helps keep algae and mildew from growing. Also consider the type of material used for your liner. Swimming pool liners are usually made with vinyl or plastic, and can be quite decorative.

Inground Swimming Pool Safety

The elegance of inground swimming pools attracts a lot of buyers. However, it is important to keep in mind that inground pools have their own safety risks. It is important to always have someone watch the pool such as a "lifeguard" or simply an adult who can swim. This is because children (and unmindful adults) have a higher tendency to fall into an inground swimming pool as opposed to an above ground swimming pool. It will help to keep your inground swimming pool covered when not in use, or fenced off in certain areas.

Safe swimming pool toys for added fun

While purchasing fun and colorful swimming pool toys can be exciting, there are some accessories that can be considered as a "must-have". Goggles are important, especially for children. There are also special swimming pool toys and floats available for toddlers. Swim aids such as swimming pool floats, swim belts, and water wings, are also considered as safe swimming pool toys. Your local swimming pool supply shops probably have a good toys department - take a look around in order to get the best prices.

Swimming Pool Safety for Children

Having a swimming pool on your property can be a great way to have fun for yourself and your entire family. Even though a pool can be fun, it can also be very dangerous if you have children around. If you can wait, you should wait until your kids are least 5 or older before you put a pool on your property. On the other hand, if you already have a swimming pool, there are ways that you can protect your children.

One thing you should always remember is to never, ever, allow your children to be alone near your pool. Children tend to be drawn near the water, and all it takes is a second for them to fall in the pool. If you and your children are at your pool and you need to leave the area for a second, you should always take your children with you.

To be on the safe side, you should always make sure that you have plenty of safety equipment around your pool at all times. Safety items are great to have around, as they can save the life of a child or anyone else who can't swim. You should also invest in a shepherd's hook as well, as you can use it to pull someone out of the water. Having a phone at your pool is also a wise investment, as you can easily call for help in the event of an emergency.

If you don't have a fence around your pool you should look into getting one. A fence is a great way to protect your pool from children. If you have a protective fence up, you won't have to worry about little kids falling in while you are away from the pool. When you put your fence, you should always make sure that it's at least 6 foot high, with a locking gate. This way, no one can get into the pool without the key - which you should keep with you at all times.

You can also learn CPR as well. Even though you may not ever have to use it, it's always great to know in the event of someone falling in your pool that is unable to swim. Whenever you have children or people you know can't swim at your pool, you should always stay within reach of them, so you can react instantly if they fall in. A second is all it takes to save someone's life.

Always keep in mind that swimming is fun, although you should always think in terms of safety first. Once you have finished using your pool for day, make sure that you secure the area well - and lock the gate up tight so no one can get in.

Swimming Pool Covers

A swimming pool can provide families with hours of entertainment and the opportunity for healthy recreation. However, unless care is taken, swimming pools can prove very dangerous. The sad fact is that it takes just thirty seconds for a child to drown. It is for this reason that pool covers can be so valuable.

Swimming pool covers provide many useful functions, such as maximizing the benefits of the pool-heating system, thereby cutting back on the portion of the energy bill devoted to keep the pool temperature perfect. Hard-top swimming pool covers also function as a backup to a pool fence (an absolute safety necessity), ensuring that if a little child wanders onto a covered pool, he or she will not get entangled in a flimsy cover, which is a drowning hazard. Warmer environments only require simple plastic swimming pool covers — just to keep the pool clean and protected from airborne dust, dirt, and leaves when not in use. The choice of the type of swimming pool cover is determined by what the particular necessities are.

Swimming pool covers come in a variety of choices: net pool covers, mesh pool covers, vinyl/in-ground pool covers, etc. They adapt to rocks and waterfalls and don't obstruct views. A mesh pool cover has a tight-fitting safety barrier, and it prevents unwanted entry, reduces maintenance, keeps pool free of debris, and reduces evaporation. A vinyl pool cover boasts an outstanding safety barrier, and it operates with the turn of a key, seals out dirt and leaves, insulates and retains heat, and reduces chemical loss. All-Safe and Katchakid are two of the many manufacturers of swimming pool covers.

The mesh swimming pool covers serve dual purposes: safety and protection of the pool from leaves and debris. Mesh covers are used extensively throughout the U.S. to close down or winterize pools. The fabric of the swimming pool cover is a unique blend of polypropylene and is impervious to chlorine and mildew. Most swimming pool covers provide an adequate level of safety if properly cared for. However, care should be taken to choose a pool cover that is high in quality and one in which the mesh pool cover straps go completely across the cover on both the top and bottom of the cover. Also, the spacing of the straps on the mesh pool covers greatly affects the overall strength.
